vances : I've been muted, but my question is: do you use technorati or tagging in developing social networking, and if so, how?
shieldsk : right, let the students create
shieldsk : so true
shieldsk : thank you
vances : I've been muted, but my question is: do you use technorati or tagging in developing social networking, and if so, how?
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: Pls put the blog address up again.
shieldsk : Great!
shieldsk : put it in the chat
monayegy [Mona]: That has been a real great presentation
cheryloakes50 [Cheryl]: Barbara, great presentation, very smooth.
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: I think in-class, on-land discussion is often a failure because only 1-2 people can dominate the conversation so easily
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: And one of them is often the teacher
Dennis-Phoenix [Dennis]: Hear, hear, Elizabeth!
Dennis-Phoenix [Dennis]: The same thing often happens in live chat!
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: Maybe not as often because there is also text chat.
shieldsk : Good point
shieldsk : That's what I love about WorldBridges
Dennis-Phoenix [Dennis]: It happens in text chat, too--but maybe for different reasons. The fast typists dominate.
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: Jeff is such a good moderator--gets everyone involved.
ElizabethHa [Elizabeth]: But then, in looking over the transcript or listening to the recording, the teacher can see who is responding and who not--it's a good self-development thing.
Dennis-Phoenix [Dennis]: Yes--and maybe very revealing.
durff [mrs]: so you think tags are valuable?
durff [mrs]: I do too
vances : absolutely
durff [mrs]: like Russian boxes
durff [mrs]: helps them think
durff [mrs]: categorizing
vances : except with tags when you put one in all the books you're looking for in the library with that tag present themselves
durff [mrs]: we haven't tried delicious
durff [mrs]: but we do technorati tags
vances : with delicious YOU tag
durff [mrs]: with Warlick's tag generator
vances : with tecnorati the tags are scanned
vances : can you put its address here?
shieldsk : are you a big SL advocate? I guess that's probably on your blog too!
shieldsk : Do you do any social action in you curriculum?
shieldsk : What kind of authentic work do your students produce?
vances : technorati finds tags that have been placed in blogs, with del.icio.us someone has to manually tag other peoples' sites
shieldsk : I love the idea of College mentors for elem ed
shieldsk : I teach K!
shieldsk : Do you let your students do any self selected projects like saving Darfur?
vances : theres' no conflicting event
vances : this is the Durff and Shields hour

digibridge [Andrew]: Actually I think we are seeing a sea change in higher education worldwide now toward more online collaboration course development for online curriculums and online campuses
shieldsk : yes, talk is talk but how do wew get people involved
shieldsk : so hard to exlplian the power od rss an tags and just getting connected
digibridge [Andrew]: various higher education institutions are now moving to provide more courses with Web 2.0 features included
vances : It's always had technology
digibridge [Andrew]: if we are to live in a 21st century global digital economy, then there is no way around technology.
shieldsk : yes Daphne
lainemarsh : my dean is opposed to online and believes our campus is a warm fuzzy, i.e. not online; i am the only one to do hybrid/blended courses -- online we don't do at all
shieldsk : I think the students will drive the teachers
digibridge [Andrew]: that's what we think in Chicago
shieldsk : Eithere that or they will just start teaching themselves
digibridge [Andrew]: and jobs will drive everyone else
shieldsk : Daphne, what's your blog?
shieldsk : what?!
shieldsk : OK share your wiki please
shieldsk : what do you cover?
digibridge [Andrew]: so if our economies are adopting more technology then our workforce needs to be job ready for a 21st century workforce
durff [mrs]: 1. How will education need to transform in order to usher in the future successfully?
2. What strategies are important in transformative educational models?
3. Karl Fisch says the only way to predict the future is to invent it. How does this statement
relate to what Barbara Ganley said?
4. How do we the teachers relinquish control of learning?
5. How do we, the movers and pushers, facilitate the entry of all teachers into School2.0?
shieldsk : thx for reading them Vance
Daf : lol
digibridge [Andrew]: are our education institutions uniform across the planet?? Probably not, eh ! So we have to be specific region by region and K-12 through higher education region by region
shieldsk :
